On Wednesday evening, September 14, 2016, California Drivers Advocates’ (CDA) Founder and President, Mr. Rob Collier, was honored to speak to the Members of the Bellflower Elks Lodge, BPOE No. 888.

As California’s population ages, licensed drivers are increasingly suffering the suspension or revocation of their privilege to drive.  After the age of 70, California drivers are no longer permitted to renew their driving privilege through the mail and mature drivers are losing their driver license at an alarming rate for minor traffic accidents or for developing medical or physical disorders that the DMV deems unsafe.  “Even though the DMV claims to not discriminate against senior drivers, the reality is much different,” said Mr. Collier.  “California’s mature drivers will often come onto the DMV’s radar for issues that would never cause a younger driver to be scrutinized.”

After enjoying a delightful meal with the Lodge Members, Mr. Collier was happy to educate members on how they can work to protect their driving privilege through safe driving practices and remaining healthy.  Mr. Collier’s advice, “The cruel truth is that as we age, our bodies tend to betray us.  The best way to protect your driving privilege is to remain active and work to keep your bodies in good shape.  It’s also a good idea to avoid any negative contact with the police.”
